Welcome to Still Chosen,
My name is Sorrina Jolie De Noir, and I have been on the other side of the room where someone decided who I was — often through quick evaluations, like a product on a shelf. I was violated, humiliated, undermined, belittled, and falsely accused of being a liar, a fake, and a deviant of all sorts. The injury to my character disseminated rapidly and publicly, impacting all areas of my life.
At work, I was labelled incompetent; in relationships, I was deemed unworthy; in my family, I was scapegoated; and in friendships, I was competed against. I was stripped of my humanity and my basic right to human decency. Collective duplicity and complicity were considered acceptable, with a convoluted narrative making harmful behaviours seem morally justified.
I rose out of systemic dehumanisation and abuse more courageous, stronger, and more liberated than ever before. I did this with God, who judged my heart rather than my appearance. He reminded me that I am loved, worthy, and chosen — that throughout all the hardships, all the pain, and all the betrayal, I am Still Chosen.
I had no roadmap, no support, and no kindness that I could count on. So I built a strategy to surpass the fear, the hurt, and the betrayal that were designed to disrupt and destroy my life. I stopped being accountable for someone else’s verdict.
I stopped participating and called back my power. I observed what was going on around me. I named it — every person and every moving part. I wrote everything down. How did it make me feel? When did it occur? Why was it even made possible? Then came the reframe: I wrote what was true to me. I refused the narrative and wrote the truth from my experiences. Then I returned the verdict and moved forward.
I do not know what is going on in your life, but what I do know is that you are loved, you are cared for, and you are wanted. If there is no one around, God’s love is eternal and unyielding. Start today by loving yourself. Make your first act of kindness the one you give to yourself. Maybe one day I will hear your story of recovery.
